Kandy and Dambulla registered wins in the two games of the Dialog-SLC National Super League 2022 concluded today at the Pallekele and Dambulla International Cricket Stadiums.
Kandy vs Colombo
Having won the toss, Colombo skipper Dimuth Karunaratne opted to bat first against Kandy in the 15th match of National Super League 50-over tournament.
Colombo managed to post a solid score on the board thanks to a brilliant century compiled by the right-hander Nuwanidu Fernando. This is Fernando’s 2nd consecutive century in the tournament as he notched up 112 runs off 133 balls with 7 fours and a six.
Though the target of 272 seemed challenging, Kandy managed to get over the line quite comfortably as their in-form batter Oshada Fernando once again rose to the occasion with a match winning knock.
Fernando made an unbeaten 85 runs off 94 balls with 6 fours and all-rounder Sahan Arachchige gave him good support at the other end scoring 64 runs off 76 balls with 7 fours. The duo managed to put on a match winning partnership (128 runs off 136 balls) for the 4th wicket which set the tone for Kandy’s comprehensive victory.
Galle vs Dambulla
Dambulla skipper Minod Bhanuka won the toss and invited the Galle team to bat first in the 16th match of National Super League 50-over tournament. The decision paid off for the hosts Dambulla as they restricted Galle to a mere 125 runs in 33.4 overs.
Left-arm spinner Duvindu Tillakaratne had a great outing with the ball for Dambulla as he claimed 4 wickets for 21 runs in his 10-over spell.
Dambulla faced an early setback in the run-chase, losing a few quick wickets up front but managed to cross the line with 5 wickets in hand. Ashan Priyanjan top scored with 31 runs off 32 balls while Sameera Sadamal (26*) and Dushan Hemantha (28*) chipped in with useful knocks guiding Dambulla to their first win of the tournament.
